There is no such thing as a backdoor for good guys. Once you place a backdoor, you compromise the safety and privacy of all your users. A third party or bad guys will get access to it and abuse it further. The concept of a "backdoor for good guys" is fundamentally flawed and dangerous. It sets a dangerous precedent. Security and privacy should be absolute. If you're building a long-term residence in a place that gets cold, consider
 building a Rocket Mass Heater.

It is highly efficient and it allows for long-term storage of heat energy in
 the mass of the home.

In addition, it provides a hot stove surface which can be used for boiling
water or other cooking tasks which do not require a precise temperature.

It is highly efficient as the smoke from the flames are sucked out of the
living space and remain inside the barrel of the heater, where they are slowly
consumed. there is very little exhaust, but what is there is CO2 which is
deadly to breathe, so caution must be taken (as with any fire-based heating
 option)

Paying your employees more *makes them better workers*.

An extra 2$ per hour might mean they can eat out an extra night, they might be
able to afford a car, and they might be able to focus just a bit more without
crying in their sleep about an unexpected bill.

With less stress, employees perform better. They are more loyal. They work
 harder.

Pay your employees more. They are your greatest resource.

It originally came out of an idea for making auxetic foams. What is auxetic? It's a material with a negative Poisson ratio, meaning when it is compressed in one direction it shrinks in all directions and when it expands in one direction it expands in all directions. The most common example is the Hoberman sphere toy. Auxetic structures also have interesting applications in impact resistance and deployable architecture.

my favorite lego sets are the ones that teach you to take care of your toys.
Solid structures with lots of connecting flat pieces (to hold it together) but
with details that can snap off. Being lego, the child can just... put them
back on, but with other more expensive or intricate toys they might not. Then,
if they throw it down the stairs, they have 15 pieces to put back on instead
 of 340.

and if they throw it into the freshly fallen snow, they might not have any.

I feel that frugality and productivity should be valued in equal regard.

A person who conserves should be valued just the same as a person who
 progresses.

Yet we find ourselves in a capitalist system which demands the production of
dollars to spend on rent, mortgages, groceries, bill payments,
land-value-taxes, and all the other things besides.

Would it not be better to ensure the grovetender has a space to sleep? The
 recycler has enough to eat?

What of the mothers? Their children are their charges, they should worry less
 about financials.

What of the artists? Their visions and imagined creations are worth more than
their time working at a bank or a grocery store.

Open source programming is the bedrock of all technology. It is not rewarded.

There are countless examples besides. Give people the means to produce and
they will - give people the means to maintain and they will.

Currently, people have the means for neither. Only corporations and the few
with wealth have the means to produce or conserve - everyone else just works
 in their sweatshops.

all this means is that once our struggle is done, we can't rest - we need to
liberate the world as well. Think of the rest. Their oppressors will learn
from the mistakes of ours, and so we must apply our newly gained strength

every object has a time limit for how long it can stay in your life.

some objects which are loved tend to stick around longer. others fade away and
 are forgotten.

when an object is given away, it is born again, to live a life renewed. The
timer restarts, and it yearns to see the future you have granted it.

when an object is thrown away, it fades into the background and it's memory
grows into dust. This is not always an unhappy thing, for it makes room for
 new objects in your life.
