ugh so many video essays to watch. There's only so much time in the day! Life
is so fast these days, it feels like I must always be "on" - it's a wonder how
people find so much time to share with this idea we've called "capitalism"

You're absolutely right. It's easy to think of the internet as this
encapsulated entity "the world", but really it's "the people whose computers
are physically connected to your computer using a limited and tangible piece of
infrastructure comprised of copper wires that are laid between the
router/switch that connects to your computer... and the internet service
provider which directs your traffic. Then it probably goes through some cables
under the ocean or whatever, and eventually after traversing many indeterminate
passthrough locations eventually arrives at the computing infrastructure that
comprises the access point that another person (presumably in another country)
uses to express their thoughts toward you (the person who sent the original
message) in the hopes that you might one day correspond.

I mean... That's a lot of points of failure. I sure hope that we can sustain
such connection, in the face of [redacted, whichever circumstances may come in
 the near future]

Why would someone go through the effort of creating a piece of media such as a
video essay if not for people like you and me to consume it? What's the point
of [everything we as humans have built] if not to create the type of
experiences that we as humans would like to perceive?

Okay I get it sometimes we need to deal with the material realities of our
circumstances. But those are things to *transcend*, not things we
should define ourselves eternally by. Let us work together towards a [near]
future where we shall not spend a single moment of our lives in a way that we
 do not desire ^_^

[note "transcend" is a verb, sorta like "transitioning" for a trans person is
not a singular event but rather an experience that consists of a multitude of
connected experiences through time that defines our ultimate personality and
 expression method]

Our ancestors look forward in [positive version of trepidation, like │

Hah, trick question. They know where we're going. They know what they worked │
for, which is why they did what they did to build the world that we have which │
we stand upon as a giant might be upon the shoulder of another and together we │

what we seek is within sight, so- │

noooooo the saxophone was great I promise! But I want you to explore new
 horizons too
Image shows a screenshot of a Mastodon comment, specifically the comment that the original poster is responding to. The screenshotted comment says "I have to return to Saxophone this week. Help me pick which instrument I rent next for TodePond music." TodePond is a Youtube Channel that shows very surreal videos about programming and cartoon frogs. It's very cool, I love it a lot. Anyway, the original post has a poll attached. The four options are number 1: another saxophone? number 2: Cello number 3: trombone, maybe tuba and number 4: flute the author of this toot has picked flute as their option. It received 29% of the votes, number 3 (trombone) received 29% as well, and Cello received 43%. Of note is that the first option, the option to pick another saxophone, received zero percent of the votes! Which implies that the saxophone wasn't well received. However, the author of this toot really likes the saxophone, even though they voted for the flute in the poll, because they want the musician to expand their horizons. Because to do so is to improve themselves, which is a pretty good thing to aspire for. Anyway read what the author wrote and you'll hear what she means.

Nobody will get past the login screen on my computer, but if they do they
probably won't know that you need to push alt+p in DWM to start a program. But
even if they push "alt+p firefox" they will only have access to my gmail and
discord, because those are the only two places I've saved my login information.

Most of my data is on my hard disk anyway, so for that they'd have to push
alt+enter and then navigate my filesystem to find it. Shouldn't be too hard if
 you're familiar with Linux.

They could always just pull the hard drive and put it into a new computer
though. It's not like it's encrypted, because why would I encrypt it? I want to
share information, not conceal it! Surely nobody would desire to exploit that
vulnerability of mine, that my data should be unencrypted?

Do you ever think about how cis straight "self described 'normal people'"

Good night, I sure hope I'm the same person in the morning and not an
assassinated version of myself that has been produced through the manufactured
proceedings of an LLM or otherwise self computerized contriving designed to
align to the purpose of my expression (with a few added caveats)! Talk to you
later, I love you all! Wait, I don't know you. How can I love you? Easy, it's
my default. Anyway goodnight, sleep is death and dreams are the bounty of
 reality.

Sorry. I'm (probably) schizophrenic so I say weird things sometimes.

I think this passage from the linked essay sums it up pretty well. I'm going
back and re-reading it now before bedtime. Surely that won't impact my dreams
 at all : )
There’s a passage in the Principia Discordia where Malaclypse complains to the Goddess about the evils of human society. “Everyone is hurting each other, the planet is rampant with injustices, whole societies plunder groups of their own people, mothers imprison sons, children perish while brothers war.” The Goddess answers: “What is the matter with that, if it’s what you want to do?” Malaclypse: “But nobody wants it! Everybody hates it!” Goddess: “Oh. Well, then stop.” The implicit question is – if everyone hates the current system, who perpetuates it? And Ginsberg answers: “Moloch”. It’s powerful not because it’s correct – nobody literally thinks an ancient Carthaginian demon causes everything – but because thinking of the system as an agent throws into relief the degree to which the system isn’t an agent.

Thanks, it means a lot. Sometimes I am a little "distant" from reality (like
tonight, tbh) but I generally always am within sight. Meaning I can still
understand what people are saying. My uhhh.... "plan" is to always be vigilant
and look for times when people cannot comprehend what I say - even the most
mundane of things - because if so then surely I am psychotic. At that point
I'll just kinda go along with whatever anyone says, even if it feels like I'm a
cow in a factory farm or whatever my mind might contrive to torture me with.

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry you've lost people. I hope they aren't gone
 forever. I hope I don't go forever. We'll see, I guess.

yikes those sound like pretty awful things. I don't know anything about the
author, I just read this essay on hacker news and it stuck with me as an
expression of a particular feeling that I've found difficult to articulate.
I'll read through the two things you posted.

 iconic for a Nirvana song
picture is a mouse cursor positioned over the "closed captions" UI element on a Youtube video. The captions appear to be disabled. A message appears that says "Subtitles/closed captions unavailable" which confirms our suspicions. Often these captions are automatically generated using AI or some computer science black magic, but apparently songs by the band "Nirvana" are too difficult to understand and so they go un-captioned.
