 what would you do differently? This was a first draft.
picture of a design I made for a homestead. There are spaces set aside for every conceivable purpose, or at least every purpose I could conceive of. First, the border is marked as "wild lands" where nature is allowed to flourish as it demands. there is a small road coming in from the top left, and it leads to a series of houses surrounded by trees. They have small gardens surrounding them, in addition to plenty of trees which hide them tastefully from their neighbors. In the top right there is a large square area dedicated to chickens - it is sectioned into four portions, each of which will contain the chickens at any one time - they will rotate, first one quadrant, then the next, leaving the rest to lay fallow and hopefully grow things for them to snack on once it's their time in that section. In the center, there is a communal house, with a large kitchen, sauna, hangout spot, and workshop. There are trails that connect the houses and this spot, so you can visit whenever you'd like. Nearby is an artificial pond that holds fish and stores water just in case. Below that there is a section for timber, a section for non-essentials like dyes, medicine, and weed. Centralized within all the other areas is a section for low maintanence crops or grazing grounds for an animal or three, depending on what the residents value. In addition there are more homes to the south, and a dirt road that connects them all. I want to emphasize that this is a first draft I made a few years ago.
