it just ensures the doctor that you can pay
unrelated, but I just went to the urgent care and they turned me away. they
don't accept the state insurance. the nearest place that does is a much longer
bike ride away, and for a person in the heat with a damaged leg... I think
I'll take an uber.

Considering the fact that medical care is so expensive, surely that means the
expertise, labor, materials, and infrastructural capability to address
people's health and well-being is in tight supply.
meaning, for things I can understand and live with, I should avoid seeking
help because those resources could be applied toward some cause that can't be
lived with, or is not understood. If it doesn't cause distress, don't touch it.

don't take on more than you can handle. if your plate is full, don't check out
the notes by the roadside. Doing so tells all the nearby drivers "hey I need a
job, anyone got anything for me?" which they'll then drop off further along
the route to your house.

They say that doctors have higher quality care in America but that's not true
because they hardly have time to spend with patients. They are pushed not to
sit and think. They are less like a detective, and more like an assembly line
fast food worker. Because that is what capitalism knowns how to do, not
because it provides higher quality care. It doesn't matter if the hospital is
for profit or not - they both run on dollars.

if a bunch of people are in town for a conference then they should probably go
confer. I think you can just... walk in to conference centers? you don't like,
need an appointment or anything. There's often something going on, and if not,
then you can at least wander around. maybe strike up conversations about
industries you're in or things that you are thinking about lately or stuff you
like like plant species or rock types or multidimensional solids or spheric
sound or... actually that's pretty specific, here let's start with just
bikeshedding (what does that mean again?) oh it's a cinema style where they
take something and they put it in a bike out shed.
