Unfortunately for us, they often aren't very efficient because they're only looking at what sells. human interest is not the only factor to optimize for, and yet that's the only one they're incentivized to. kinda makes me think that the only reason to replace them would be to institute something that could not be incentivized because it was more objective or decentralized.
