It's hard to handle negative feelings when you're alone because other people can't boost you up. We rely on each other for emotional stability, but when you're alone you can only feel your emotions at the same rate as your thoughts. And your thoughts need to process the events you're experiencing, using emotion as an "encoding" for preserving the "meaning" of your life's story.
