infantry with small arms fire to pin down a target at a location while the
long-ranged ordinance is along the way

explosive drones, long-range but small payload rockets, but probably not
artillery since it must be precisely applied when infantry are engaged.

the dumber the fire, the less precise the munition. usually.

infantry under this doctrine would only be ideal to use when the location is
 reachable by long-range ordinance.

--- #2 notes/firing-over-the-heads-of-the-enemy ---
═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════──
firing over the heads of the enemy is not useless.
you're telling your allies where to aim.

ideally, with tracer bullets, so they can see. Those work best at night.
aim at the point where the trails disappear, and/or where the smoke appears.

aim to the side, where your opponent isn't but where the flankers are.
use more ammunition than you think you need to. If there isn't always more,
 then you're losing.

Be brave. Advance. Fire where you know they should be, even if they're under
 cover.
Fire keeps them there. Long enough to let your allies get a different angle.
But, don't keep shooting if you aren't sure they're there. It's okay to fire
 in a direction to let
your allies know which direction is safe and which are dangerous. Bullets are
 bullets, they hurt all
those that they hit. [and those they are near]. Less "spray and pray", and
 more "put 3 bullets in
and around each window, that one seems to have been missed so I'll hit it just
 to be sure."

If there are civilians about, then you are either on the wrong side, or your
 foes are cruel bastards
who use people as shields. Sometimes, they have no choice. In that case, siege
 them out. Help the
people to escape. Treat them well, and fairly. Do not treat an unarmed soldier
 any differently than
 a civilian.

Always be aware of what directions are safe, and which are hot. Use drones to
 direct fire using
lasers painted on the ground, and on surfaces that are upright that you can
 see. Works best in urban
environments, which are some of the hardest. A simple red/green line that says
 "safe to stand here"
and "always be firing when standing here" is a good line to have drawn in the
 sand. Use your guys
back home to fly the drones and paint those lines. Listen to comms,
 investigate, use the tech for
 intelligence, not firepower.

The military, I think, should focus on building cheaper versions of the best
stuff available, so we can have more of them to dispatch in a fight. Having
classes of weaponry that's farther developed behind than the precision machine
can be better than throwing away billions of computer parts. Steel and rocket
fuel to a long way, and besides its not like we need all that rock (metal) or
oil (fuel) anyway. So... It pays to be efficient. Find the best cost/value
parameter and minimize cost in human lives. There, long-term best strat. Best
strat ever? Plus the citizens would be happier meaning they can make more GDP
meaning they can make more weapons to play if they saved in their pockets. And
distributed it to others we helped, to allow them do to as they pleased. Or
have you forgotten the American way? More mechanics, more technicians, more
 logisticians, more celebrations.

as the forward person is advancing, they'll watch left and right as they come

however, the back person needs to always be covering them in case of an enemy

the modern army is incomplete without explosives. the modern citizenry is
incomplete without the capacity to make them. it's simply a matter of

useful abstraction for understanding a couple primarily behavioral patterns in
human behavior, specifically why they avoid damaging things, and why they
avoid harming others. applies to both personal personality, and internal
assignment of authority. loyalty to a culture? it's guaranteed for those who
believe in good and evil. others don't see shades of that kind of color, and

first start to any sort of insurgency or rebel alliance is mobile factories.
you gotta be able to make your x-wings in space. similarly, drones being built
between wall-less semi trucks assembly line style. with a helipad on top, and
networked with servo-motor struts that follow the exact path and momentum of
the truck ahead of it, recorded and passed down to the past. what was I
saying? oh yes they could exchange drone parts across these barriers and build
an entire drone that could be deployed at will. well, so long as the roadsigns
hold out (whoops) I think it works better for the Rebel Alliance, united
against one foe as a state federation. (downside is then you forget who you're

like... did you know most battles ended when everyone *ran away*? Most people
think they're like, endless gauntlets of death to-the-death. no, it's not
really like that, more like "stick around as long as possible and try to get
 'em before they get us"

plus some general orders from the guys on horses like "start moving toward the
sun" or "move onto the high ground"

'cause like, if you hear something like that then you better follow their
commands, if you don't then all your buds will leave you to get ganked.

these days... our comms are so hackable that like, are you really gonna
communicate over infrastructure they control? oy...

Decimate is when you take every 10th man in an organized unit and create a new
unit from it. Used to re-organize and keep things fresh. Ideally, for those
who don't get along. If everyone gets along, something's wrong.

if someone on the street asked you, could you point to the nearest power
station? wastewater treatment plant? hell even a gas-station

if you live in a city, probably not. They put them in fake buildings with
hollowed out exteriors in order to keep the city looking nice.

these crucial pieces of infrastructure are important to defend. but if you
don't know which street to turn down, then you might miss them.
